Kampong Ayer

Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque

Majestic and dramatic, this mosque is a contrast to the water houses. It is one of the largest mosques in South-east Asia, and has a gold dome, a lagoon and an observation point in one of the minarets where you can get a wonderful view of the city.

It's richness is elevated by some of the finest materials used: the best marble from Italy, granite from Shanghai, stained glass and chandeliers from England and carpets from Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

Istana Nurul Iman

Istana Nurul Iman is monarch's residence. The palace is open to the public during the Hari Raya Puasa festival, when His Majesty and the royal family personally greet visitors. Its is golden domes are visible from Jalan Tutong, or from the waterfront of Persiaran Dumuan, the site of ASEAN Square lined with many modern sculptures.

Tomb of Sultan Bolkiah

The Tomb of Sultan Bolkiah, Brunei's fifth Islamic monarch, lies within a mausoleum that also commemorates the golden age of a nation which once dominated the region.

Brunei Museum

For insights into local culture and history, the Brunei Museum exhibits ancient bronze, brassware, Chinese ceramics, jade and archeological artifacts.

Malay Technology Museum

The Malay Technology Museum depicts old cottage industries like weaving, gold and silversmithing, and local house construction.

Royal Regalia Museum

The Royal Regalia Museum houses the Constitution, the royal chariot, armoury and other royal paraphernalia.

Arts and Handicraft Centre

The Arts and Handicraft Centre displays hand woven baskets and brocades with gold and silver threads. On sale are reproductions of the Kris (indigenous dagger) and miniatures of cannons, boats and ceremonial gongs.

Jerudong Park Playground

About 30 minutes from town, the Jerudong Park Playground is nightly wonderland of fantasy rides and amusements. Paved walkways link the well tended complex to a food court, floodlit fountains and parks lawns.

Beaches

Popular picnic spots are Muara Beach on the north coast, Pantai Seri Kenangan in Tutong and Tungko Beach along the Muara-Jerudong coastal road.
