Events and Festivals
There is always an event going on in Hong Kong. It might be a Chinese festivals, an extravaganza of costumes, parades, music, and incense. It could be a cultural event, featuring major international artists, or a sporting event in which world- famous stars compete for victory. Whenever you visit, one of these events will make you trip an even greater treat.
Chinese New Year Parade & Celebration (February) - Hong Kong is alive with bright lights, fireworks, sumptuous foods, and boisterous lion dances during this, the most important holiday in the Chinese lunar calendar. The New Year is marked by a parade down the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, featuring colorful floats, performance groups and celebrities, and the Wheel of Fortune Expo, a four- day event exploring esoteric arts and sciences, with lecture and demonstrations of astrology, qi gong, geomancy, palm reading and much more. You can also view the spectacular New Year's fireworks on a special cruise.
Hong Kong Arts Festival (February)/March) - Top international symphony orchestras, theater troupes, dance companies, art exhibitions and full-scale Western opera productions are part of the territory's most prestigious artistic event.
Hong Kong Food Festival (March) - Feast on some of the world's tastiest food during this two-week culinary adventure. American Express has been the lead sponsor of this event since its inception in 1986.
Bun Festivals (April/May) - There's only one in the world, and Hong Kong has it! On the tiny island of Chengung Chau each year, inhabitant engage in eight days of festivities, including a colorful procession in which children are dressed up a famous figures and paraded on stills through the town accompanied by the clash of cymbals. On the fifth day, special rice-flour buns hung from towers are given away to ensure good luck and prosperity.
