As mentioned earlier, Vietnam covers two different climatic zones - the moderate climate zone in the North of the country and the tropical climate zone in the South.
In the moderate northern zone we distinguish two seasons, winter from November to April, and summer from May to October.
In the tropical South of the country we distinguish, like anywhere else in Southeast Asia, among three seasons: the cold season from November to January, the hot season from February to April or May and the rainy season from May or June to October.
During the Southeast Asian rainy season from June to the beginning of November Vietnam is, like the Philippines and the South China coast around Hongkong, regularly struck by typhoons.
